I am going to summarize the key benefits and cost for this american express card. Even if you choose not to use this card, you can just as easily sign up to get the benefit and cancel after.


Cost: AUD$1,200 per year(Don't freak out, this is easily offset. SQ economy flight for 2 already cost $1611.36)

Benefits: 
  • 120,000(20,000 comes from referral) membership points which equals 120,000 krisflyer points
  • 300 dollar credit in travel credit with fhr
  • Accorplus membership which gives you free night at any accor hotel (sofitel, pullman eg)
  • elite status with major hotels (SPG, Carson etc) which depending on loyalty program, gives wifi, breakfast, latecheckout, room upgrade if available.
  • unlimited virgin/amex lounge access
  • Access to amex FHR(Fine Hotel reservation system)

Now, let us do some calculation, Below gives you an idea of what 55k krisflyer point can bring you. Note the image belows shows for 2 Adults business class return.





Lets choose Bangkok 3 night stay for their massage and yummy thai food, I choose sofitel so I can combo that with accorplus free 1 night and if I use my travel credit of $300, I am out of pocket $263.20. Not only that, we get a free room upgrade + USD$75 hotel credit for massage or dinning.

Now, summary
  • Cost: $1,200 for credit card
  • $1,240.56 for ticket tax and surchange
  • $263.20 for hotel(3 nights)
TOTAL: $2,703.76

Lets try without the credit card and fly economy with singapore airline,




  • Flight $1,611.36
  • Hotel $746
Total $2,357.36 (not including the USD$75 that FHR gives). If I make this a 2 night stay instead of 3, the price will probably be around the same but who would stay anywhere less than 3 night in bangkok!!!
